hey guys,, ive pulled my moter out to re gasket , and i need to borrow or buy or steel a harmonic balance puller to suit the gray,,, can anyone tell me who mite sell one or if i can borrow one will pay postage and costs and will take great care and send it strait back,,or will the three prong pullers at repco do it and not stuff the balencer,,,i did a 202 the other day and there is no way that a repco special would get it of

i've used supercheap ones on the 202, they are a universal screw in fit type, but im not sure what the grey has so i dunno if it will work with it.

Grey motor pullers are different to the red motor pullers.

Had to borrow one in Tocumwal in the '70's when my second engine shed the timing gear.......

The one we borrowed from the local garage was a long bolt within a double threaded nut.

The bolt had a pointed end on it which went into the crankshaft.
The outer thread of the nut screwed into the harmonic balancer.

To remove, the bolt was turned in the inner thread of the nut............

Is this what is supposed to be used? - my father did the work back then - I watched - and got told off for revving the guts out of the engine to strip the gear........

I'm pretty sure the red motor remover will not fit or one which has "jaws" is not intended for grey motors.......

yep the threaded insert with the pointed driving bolt is what you want the red motor one bolts on to the inner section of the balencer in 3 points

Heres a pic of the tool.

The thread that screws into the balancer is 1' 1/8" UNF
Thats a diameter of 1" 1/8" With 12 threads per inch.
Just incase you want to make your own.

Karsten, I had to source one of these pullers a few years back on my way to dubbo for the nats. I shredded my balancer just outside Brunswick Heads and spend the rest of the afternoon stripping done the front of the car to get to the front of the engine. Finally got radiator out to find that I had a red motor puller in my trusty tool box and it wasn't going to work. Thought about the cold chisel for a few moments and then went for a walk down the road to an old workshop to see if he had a grey motor puller, To my surprise this gent knew exacltly what I was talking about, But he had lent it to another fella the day before. he said that it should be coming back before closing which was in about 15 minutes. I decided to go to the pub as I thought that I was done for the day, But as it happened as I walked out of the workshop said young fella walked in with the Puller. It took all of 2 minutes to wrestle the shredded balancer off the front of the motor and I was able to return the puller before he closed for the day. The next thing was I didn't have a balancer to replace it with so slept in the back of the van over night and had to hitch a ride to lismore the next day to pick up a red motor balancer. Fitted and on the road again for another couple of hours and blew a timing gear at Deepwater. But thats another story. Sorry to put you through the ramble but I don't have the puller you need. I'm sure one would be available from one of the Qld members, I'll see what I can come up with. I still have to get those scuff plate trims to you.

Hey karsten i also got a super cheap special which hasnt meet a balancer it couldnt take of yet.I assume it would work on a grey aswell.I have since made one up myself though which is much the same as thommos only a bit shorter and is mainly used to turn the engine over to adjust my roller rockers.

My old man is in Laidley and may have another one in his tool box. He gave me one a few years back (ex-mechanic), which I am happy to send off if you pay for the postage costs. I just emailed him to go have a look, so he may send you an email if he does.

karsten, use the proper puller, its a hell of a lot easier.

Old rosie striped her gear a few weeks ago, i got soaked replacing it in the wet weather... they seem to chose their time perfectly hey.

The one i used was borrowed, maybe it will pay to take up on a loan offer.

Is it possible to buy this tool from anywhere, or does it need to be made. I saw the post that says that they come up on ebay, but I will need it fairly soon, don't want to have to wait for one to appear.
