You could fit an early volvo diff,
complete with disc brakes & early holden stud pattern.

Yes they share the same bolt pattern, and come with disc brakes.

Hey farkamhall,

As Thommo said about the volvo diff, you should only have to weld springs saddles onto the diff as per original diff then make brake pipes to match up with FB pipes. Not sure about handbrake though. Only other thing to modify that I can see is the tailshaft.

Cheers

Getting the right ratio is the trick with Volvo diffs, a lot of them are 3.9:1
I think the ones out of a 264 model are the best with a ratio of 3:45 or thereabouts.

If you have torana brakes on the front , why not fit torana brakes on the back ? UC toranas had rear discs as an option

Is the car built for cruising or performance?
If you are only going to be cruising it, the easiest thing to do is replace the rear brake cylinders with ones suited for a disc front(smaller bore) and leave it at that.
If you are going to track days or like to take the car around the windy stuff then go disc rear.

You need to replace the existing wheel cylinders with ones that suit a disc brake front end. They have a smaller bore than ones you probably have now and if I remember correctly the pads will need replacing too as the new wheel cylinders will have a nub (short rod) as opposed to the the longer slotted rod you have now.
If you don't swap wheel cylinders the rears will lock up at 1/4 to 1/2 braking force.

Below is a picture of the drum/drum rear brakes. The slots that the arrows point to are not on the disc/drum brake shoes.
Any decent brake shop or parts store should be able to help you with parts.
