Turned up at home yesterday chasing parts to get it licenced in WA - is a fresh import from Adelaide. Has a red and a Trimatic in it so it going to take a fair amount of work to get it passed, collapsible column, dual circuit brakes, seatbelts, demister etc

Collapsible column, how silly. Like HR had a collapsible column. The one we bought from Trev didn’t require it but that was done over 10 years ago and things have evidently changed. The rest is fair enough. Nice looking car. Don’t think I know it.

Those wheels on the front prolly would fail in SA, as did the ones on Trevor’s car. Looking at the engineering documents that came with the car, the wheels were signed off as being standard factory offset (+18) 13x7” Dragways, whereas they are actually -5 offset……….

It has a HR front end and there are spacers on those wheels - so they will have to come off whether they are legal or not. I would assume it will be well over track with them on even without the spacers.
He is now kicking around the idea of a V6 conversion now that he has to do all this crap to licence it anyway

There are some paperwork tricks that can be done using the differences in HR vs. FB/EK offset (+6 vs. +19mm) and track (1369 vs. 1384mm). Similarly, CRS spindles are certified to 1455mm track. Some time doing the maths, carefully choosing which components are the NCOP “the axle components used” and then convincing the engineer can save a lot of headache. It was the only way I could get the large Commondoor wheels to comply on the wagon.
Cheers,
Harv

Nice wagon - I’d try my luck if it’s been registered with the Red for some time

always been my argument but gets me nowhere, lots of stuff required in NSW for engineering that was never fitted to all HRs actually most of the stuff wasn't on all HRs a lot was optional but not on all, it's a crock anyway i've had plenty with quick sixes and virtually nothing done some not even disc brakes and never had an issue and as a lot know i drive my cars like i stole them, years ago a mate had one with a blown small block yeah it had disc brakes but that was it first time i went in it i said gee it's noisey in here he said lift up the carpet and there was the gearbox, no floor hump, no cross bracing, no chassis kit and he made my driving look tame if i drive like i stole it he drove like he stole it and hated the person he stole it from and the doors would shut with a gentle click click

Red motor and trimatic, what size ?
The argument for the red being in a HR could be quashed because the Red was in right up to the UC and HZ and both those had collapsable columns, dual cct brakes, seat belts, demister, drivers side mirror.
It is a pain but necessary cause we do need to keep control ! The idea of an old shitbox with double the power and less than adequate brakes hurtling towards the side of a modern car may not appeal to most, thats the issue, the third party. The column just for the driver, probaby a good idea as well.
Looks a nice car though.

red motor might have been and a 202 (which is what they predominantly had) you also need more if fitting to an EK from most engineers BUT a 186 you only used to have to bring an EK up to the standards of a HR
as for collapsable column a sensible young bloke that used to live next door to me died in his late model fowlcan hitting the column in an accident not doing anything silly or speeding just went to sleep, they aren't all they're cracked up to be, if it's your time it's your time, i should be dead 10x over

Mick,
You are right, in the day I did the same thing. Actually I was talking to one of the Grimmas at the last nationals and we had used the same engineer based in Guildford NSW, not sure if that guy would still be with us ?
The unfortunate thing is we so call "progress for the better" and with vehicle safety it seems we must keep up to date with what the rule changes are at the time. When buying a car between states that also causes headaches because of the interpretations.
I can just see it now, when you want to do the electric Tesla mod you will need sat nav and 32 air bags !!!
The future is looking wierd, but we have the rules and we must obey !

watched a vid of a bloke working on a Tesla and i thought changing to electric using Tesla stuff would be easyish the whole engine and drive unit comes out in a cradle as a complete unit, what he was doing was changing a rear only drive one to a four wheel drive one just dropped out the front cradle complete motor, drive system, steering, suspension and then bolt the front drive cradle in
i want to do it if for nothing else than to piss people off to the extreme
