I previously messaged SunnyTim when Blacky suggested it - but haven't received a response. Yesterday, I tried to message SunnyTim again, but my message is still in my outbox...does this mean his inbox is full?

I saw on another post that Steve Jackson doesn't have much to do with this forum anymore but is on facebook (I don't do facebook)

If anyone else would be willing to contact either of these two with my info - or have any other leads it would be appreciated

thanks
Patrick

it was built between the release of 2 inferior models. you can roughly work it out by searching this forum from information posted by Dr Terry.

I haven't really gotten anywhere with this --- so being EK29258M I've 'decided' it's January 1962.

Patrick,

You can try reading the date codes cast onto such things as the engine block, cylinder head, inlet and exhaust manifolds, gearbox case and diff case. Generally I'd think that the manifolds and gearbox are most likely to be original.

The format is (letter) (one or two digits) (one digit)
The letter ranges from A (January) to M (December) for month, omitting "I".
The middle one or two digits are the day of the month.
The last digit is the year.

You can also date the car to within a quarter by looking carefully at the circular "Armourplate" symbol on the glass. There'll be a dot above one of the letters in "ARMOURPLATE", which is a year code. And there'll be another dot above the first to fourth letter of another word in the symbol, which tells you the quarter.

I was lucky with my van. When I pulled the floor up there was a page of the Adelaide Advertiser classifieds jobs section dated end of August 1962. Subframe is stamped EK15xxxA which seems low for that date though and looked original. EK2104-7079A body plate not a valid comparison as all van bodies came from the Woodville Adelaide plant.

thanks again Rob ... that info helped much more than my 29xxx of 48xxx calculation

I'll call it March 1962 (for now?) ... I found markings as per below

most of the glass is 1st quarter 1962 (some glass is 4th quarter 1961)
engine block is March 1962
diff is February 1962

Patrick,

There's usually two to three months between the casting date and when the car was sold new. Since you have some March '62 castings, I'd say your ute was sold in May or June.

thanks Rob

... it was advertised as a '62 (by someone who didn't have many details)

...initially I was just keen to confirm that it was a '62 (mainly so I wouldn't have to change my userid :half: ) ...anyway, let's call it May '62 as likely first registration (for now?)
