Hi,
As I'm get older and my back and legs complain loudly after spending some time working on the ute, I decided to make some car stands.
This will go under the wheels and lift the ute a reasonable height. These work out at 350 mm so it should allow my tummy to slide under the ute.

I was able to grab a heap of timber 70 x 35 from the scarp heap at work.
These are 460 mm long and 380 wide so they will take just about any wheels size.

I completed one after work today
I decided to go with a removable top, which if need will take the axles stands Only 3 more to go So far only cost me a bunch of screws and my time.

I made steel ones years ago , then realised there was no crossbracing in them when I was under the Monaro one day and swung off it and the whole lot started to wobble - I got out from under there in record time !!!

You poor old bugger. Just wait till you get to my age sunny Jim! I’ll come around and tip it on it’s side if you like.


FB ute fixer upper, EK van on rotisserie

i saw stands like that on an American hotrod show big end shop so i assume they are ok, i was thinking of making some also though it would take me a while to feel comfortable under there

They would be safe as houses braced like that - can easily slide a couple more pieces in the centre of each span if there was any flex when you first put ute on them but doubt they will move far - just ensure the ones on the top have no knots or cracks as pine is notoriously weak at the features (knots and heart wood etc)

A hoist a Hoist - my kingdom for a hoist.

My preference would be hoist but no head space in my shed.
Hopeful I will get the other 3 done tonight and put the ute up on them.

And Clay - I did roll the sedan over on it's side when I need to worked on the rust and the chassis kit I made.

Upside is timber will crack so I will hear it before before it lets go.

They look handy Roger. I think I'll make some myself cos' I've got some welding repairs to do under the FB and they'll make it a lot more comfy - thanks for sharing.

Make sure you give us a picture of the ute on the stands, that'll look cool.

going to need a big jack

Finished all 4 stands now.

Rick - no big jack but a engine lifter works.
I did the front end as there is more room to position the lifter. Dragged out the vacuum cleaner and gave the shed a quick cleanup.

Now I have the ute at a good height, I should be able to get more done.

Strong as houses, actually stronger !!

I dont normally like getting under a car with metal stands but I would not hesitate to crawl under that and as Clay has said car is pretty light with no engine, box etc.

Remember the good old days of the model T and the wooden wheels, they supported all sorts of loads so thumbs up from me !!!
