Ok, I'm doing up an EK for an LS1, tri attic and 9 inch. Originally was going to put in some new rear chassis rails a 4 link and some big tubs, but the engineer convinced me not to touch the chassis rails as it would require a torsional test which is lots of money and if it failed, heaps more work and money.
So since I can move the rails and fit some big tyres under it I'm thinking I might not go the 4 link and coil overs.
Anyone hear really happy with the handling and ride comfort from their leaf springs. Given leaf springs went around Bathurst they must handle ok but does it kill the ride.

Ask your engineer about stepping the rail in only for the length of the wheel arch.

If done right it should pass the torsional test. I have a friend who is running mini tubs and leaf springs, fully engineered.

Otherwise leave it leaf and it won't be an issue. Although I would go overdrive auto behind the LS. Way better than a trimatic.

The torsional test is more trouble than it's worth though, cost and time. It's $1600 for the test and its a two day job. Plus my transport costs and accomodation just makes it too much of a hassle.
Was going to go with the overdrive, but it will only be a cruiser so the fuel savings don't matter, plus the lighter Trimatic won't use near as many horses to drive it.
So your mate with mini tubs, do you know what size tyres he got under the rear?
