BUT - I have seen a genuine EK Hydramatic standard sedan (with books) so there is an exception to the rule....
That is basically correct SunnyTim. When the EK was first released, the official line was that the Hydra was only available in Special sedans & wagons. But like you, I have seen original EK Standards with a Hydra fitted. I have now found some literature, in my travels, that officially states that the Hydra was made optional for EK Standard sedans & wagons in production during Nov '61.

Am I missing something here?
Are we talking EK Commercials & Business vehicles with Auto's .... or EH's?
Was it Mick drifting off again!

All EK Holdens could have Hydramatic from new, Standard sedans wagons utes & vans , I used to see them around at the time , not many of course but they sure did exist !

I'd love to see more info on that if possible - It sounds similar to the 179 3 speed manual release in the later EH. Where is that referenced? It's not the Dealer Service Bulletins, or Technical Specifications or Dealer newsletter......I must say, after being into 215's specifically, the white one that Steve mentions is the only car that I have ever seen that fits the bill.....I must say I'm surp If that was the case I'd have thought there'd be more around....
Love some documented evidence, as I'd have to be honest and disagree without!!
Hi SunnyTim
The EH manual 179 info I have is a press release dated 10 Feb 64, factory-fitted power steering was also released at the same time.
The EK Hydra info, I do not have in my possession. I came across it in the Mortlock Library in Adelaide & you are not allowed to photocopy anything there. You can only use a pencil & paper to record things. Anyway it lists the PO numbers for the EK Hydra at release as 478A for the Special sedan & 478B for the Special wagon. Another document, simply listed as Nov 61 production changes, adds 478C & 478D for the Standard sedan & wagon. I've seen several such cars. I've not seen any evidence (or any real cars for that matter) to suggest that Holden made EK utes & vans with a Hydra. Further to that, the EJ Commercial press release (dated 4 Feb 63) states that you could now order utes & vans with a Hydra, for the first time.
