Ammeter - wiring instructions

Post by DanFranko »

Heya knowledgeable Holden guys,

i want to wire in an Wilson ammeter into the EJ.

Would some one have fitting instructions for wilsonia gauges by chance? I know they are more common for the FE/FC crew, but thought i would try here.

What i have seen so far is + at starter motor and B+ at regulator - using 30A wire. Would this seem correct?

thanks in advance

Must be in series, not parallel, i.e. all current flow from the starter battery connection must go though the ammeter to the positive on the regulator. I would also fit a fuse.

A little late edit here, no starter motor current should go through the ammeter! Otherwise you'll need Blacky's fire extinguisher.

Been there. You might want to consider fitting a volt meter. Much safer.

Hmmm all this talk about fires is somewhat concerning. But I assume it's safe IF wired correctly so that there is no starter motor current AND a fuse?

Thanks all for the advice so far

How'd you go with the ammeter Dan? I just remember melting the insulation off wiring when I installed one in my HX van way back in 82.
