Must have been a lifter famine at some stage. Of the half dozen or so blocks I pulled down looking for a crank, very few had lifters left in them.

A guy contacted me after lifters to put in a BMC Mini Minor. Back in the day, they used to bore the mini engines to take the grey lifters.
A mate runs &*#@ lifters in his 202, again bored out to suit. Maybe find something oversize to fit the grey?

302 lifters are the right diameter, but are HEAVY.
Doesn’t seem to be any signs of pinging. Any chance that the top ring had lost all gap and was pushing on that crown land?
Cheers,

That's what Craig Allardyce said - when I drained the coolant out of the block it was green but when I siphoned the last of it out of the back of the block before removing it from the car it was like swamp mud , he reckons the blocks fill up with shit around the back pot , they overheat, the top ring expands and closes up then we all know what happens then .........

Finding that missing bit in the sump as glitter is bad enough, finding it whole would have been worse.
I lost a gudgeon pin clip once in a Mini engine. It went down between the bore and piston. Incredible carnage for a few milliseconds.
