hi can any one help me just want to know i have a 62 ek wagon restoring back to original was the fire wall the same as the car or is it gmh black like th e engine bay thanks.

All the 'original' cars I have seen and owned all had a black firewall.

Clinker grey and satin black was used in various combinations for the inner guards and firewalls depending on where the vehicle was assembled. Quite often you will see the firewall is a lot 'blacker' for vehicles assembled in other plants, Elizabeth assembled cars had body colour painted firewalls in most cases (get it matched if need be as today’s formulas can be quite different).
The paint colours were also generally written on the passenger side of the radiator support panel in a wax marker with the exception of Qld where they put this under the voltage regulator.
Like the engine colour it depended on what paint was left over on the day

and it must make it extremely hard for judges at a concours level.

All FB - EK's assembled in South Australia had a firewall in body colour. All other states had the firewall in black nitrocellulose paint. GMH Chassis black was never part of the equation.

So if your car has a Adelaide SA tag you can paint the firewall in body colour and it will be correct. If not paint it black.

Its a pity only Adelaide cars have body coloured firewalls.
It improves the look off engine bay greatly.
Being from Adelaide myself, I thought they all had coloured firewalls.
I didn't know it was done any other way, I didn't pick it at the Nationals.

I would just like to thank every body who has made a comment on this issue as i have recieved mixed oppinions on this in the past to me it will make or break being restored to original thanks again.

Shows how much I know, It's actually an Adelaide car but the subframe is not the original one, It's from Melbourne ,

Which number do I rego it under then? I'm guessing the one thats not stolen ,

The RTA in NSW classes the subframe number as the Chassis number so most likely that one in Vic also.
