Ignition barrel removal (missing key)

Hi all
I am wondering if anyone out there has advice on removing ignition barrel without the key.

The switch in my new project car appears to be in quite good condition and turns from off to start and returns nicely to on without a key. I don't have a key for it and it will not turn to lock. Without turning to lock the pin can't be inserted on the hole to release the barrel. I have tried three different keys I have, to no avail.

I don't want to force it as it is the best condition I have come across. Anyone been here before? Locksmith?

Errol,

If you are not in a hurry, you have an excellent opportunity in June. The FB-EK Holden Car Club of SA is hosting the 27th FB EK Holden Nationals in Renmark (11th and 12th of June). Bring the car, and every man (and his dog) will enjoy trying their keys to see which one fits.

Cheers,
Harv

Gee thanks Harv. Would be nice to have it on the road by then. I want to get the thing out to paint the dashboard though.

I had the thought that the key number might be recorded on one of the door locks maybe? I will check it out in the morning.

Hi,
I think Harv's on the money there. I reckon an early Holden key should eventually fit after a few attempts. Where are you in SA as I have three separate FB / EK keys ready to try in your lock for a start.

Stephen

Hi Stephen
I am at Willunga but travel around a bit. Have tried the three different keys I have in ignition and door locks but not the tailgate yet. Past experience has been that other keys fit but these locks feel very firm and new and this is why l would like to be able to use them.

I can bring door locks to you assuming they are same as ignition. If you are nearby perhaps could try your keys in ignition as the van is not going.

Cheers
Clay

I have a vague idea that the drivers door barrel has the key number stamped on it...? Anyone?

The drivers barrel was defn stamped on my old EH...that's how I ended up with a new key. Back then the Holden dealer would punch out a new one using that number!

Like standards, commercials don't have a lock drivers side. Damn, thought I was on to something. Thanks for the thought though Dan.

Took off the tailgate handle. No number. After much jiggling got one key to work on it. Persevered on ignition with same key. Round to lock and out she eventually came. Key number is stamped on the barrel. [IMG]//images.tapatalk-cdn.com/15/11/01 ... e72e73.jpg[/
As I will be replacing doors with the more common Special good ones I have I will have to find a matching door barrel or fill the hole.

Thanks all
Clay
