Hi Guys
Need to pick a brain. I have pulled the instrument cluster apart to clean it and successfully taken apart and cleaned the fuel gauge and the temperature/oil/Gen gauge. Because I have a few to play with and one of them was broken anyway i decided to pull the speedometer clock apart. All has gone well, but now have come to the clear plastic circle with the orange semi circle and hit the wall, I cannot work out how this comes off. It has a brass circle in the centre attached to a shaft that sticks out the back, does anyone know how this comes out. Cannot find anything in any of my books or online. If I break this one its no biggy, this is my dry run to see if I can do it and remove 50 years of dessert dust out of Martha's.

I do a nice line in Gentle persuasion, came as standard hostage negotiation training with teenagers!

When you do separate the instruments and start your clean up I have found that Autosol metal polish really brings the scratches out of the plastic lenses and buffs up well.

Tim is right - GENTLE persuasion ! An important rule when disassembling anything using impact is to only strike the object you are removing with something made of a softer material eg strike steel with a copper faced hammer or aluminium drift, aluminium with plastic etc. With a speedo a small plastic hammer or block of wood should be maximum force after making sure the parts you are whacking are meant to be separated at all. Check the threads on the forum for painting the dial faces and you will get a good picture of what can be done.

The wagon looks like a dream rebuild but the engine mounts are there as the cross member is EH (brakes most likely are too which is a good thing). The position for a red may still be too far forward I reckon.
