G'day all,

Long time lurker, first time poster. I've owned an FB for almost 25 years which is original apart from being lowered a couple of inches and dressed up in a few Nasco bits. I'll post some pics when I get a chance. *edit* http://www.fbekholden.com/forum/viewtop ... 11&t=21162

I'm currently in the market for new rubber and looking at a set of skinny white walls. I had the painted whitewalls cut into the tyres years ago but they looked like rubbish pretty quickly, so it's come down to a set of Maxxis 185/80 R13 ($155 ea) or the Sumitomo 185/80 R13 ($105 ea).

Is there any reason I should be going for the more expensive Maxxis?

The other option is to paint the rims the same colour as the car (Reef Green) and chuck a set of flappers on it.

Hey Tim, for what its worth I've just had fitted Maxxis 13" PA-1 on my FB (185×70R). Also fitted flappers to the wheels. So all up it was $400 including tyres, fitting of flappers, balancing and alignment.

That's cheap compared to what I've been quoted. Are those Maxxis with or without the thin whitewall?

These tyres are without the thin whitewall, but you can order them for the same price. I was recommended this size with the flappers. (Better fit)

I currently have 185/70R13 size tyres on my car and I want to switch to the taller profile to get an accurate speedo and drop the highway revs down a bit.

Does anyone else run the Sumitomos?

I've used both, it's six of one and half a dozen of the other.
Both ran fine but I couldn't get over having a jap name anywhere near my cars so I use Maxxis.
Can I suggest you put a EH diff centre (3.55) in, it will run better on the highway.
There's an App you can download with a windscreen heads up display for your mobile for your speed.

Never thought about the name! My grandad (who was a Kokoda veteran) might have had something to say about it though. Thanks for the tip on the EH diff centre - I'll check them out.

Maxxis is Taiwanese

I have Kumho on mine, but I don't think they do whitewalls anymore

But "Maxxis" dosen't sound like a Zero pilot in the Second World War Pete..
