The only pawl I know of on the handbrake assembly is the one that is on the handbrake lever that ratchets on it.

But it's probably a wheel cylinder adjusting cover (on the ends).
No bar for automatic adjustment on EK's, unless it has been upgraded.
I got them new when I bought my replacement wheel cylinders.
