Spot Weld Repair at Panel Join

Hi Guys,

One of the rear panels near my tail light is starting to separate at the join. I suspect there may have been an accident repair before I bought the car and the spot welding was not up to scratch.

I am planning to obtain a quote from a panel beater to repair and repaint. Is it a simple job for any "modern" panel shop, or do I need to find someone "old school"?

Obviously there are plenty of crash repairers in my area (Rosanna, Melbourne), but does anyone have any general advice to help me select a suitable company? I am more interested in a quality repair job than the cheapest price...

Thanks!

Hi Tim,

Here's a few photos. As you can see, two short cracks have appeared in the external paintwork and they follow an internal spot-welded seam (which runs from the tip of the fin to the boot seal). Despite my previous comment, I'm not really sure if there has been an accident repair (i.e. panel replacement).

Looking forward to any comments or advice!

Thanks,

I have been quote $1000 to remove fittings, repair quarter panel, reweld, then refinish inside/outside quarter and beaver panels. I'll probably get a second quote...
