So,

Long trip ahead...53 year old grey motor and electrics.

Apart from tools and tow-rope & torch etc, what spares would you put in a FK breakdown kit?

Top and bottom radiator hose
Fan belt
Coathanger wire
1m of fuel hose
2m of heater hose (or two plugs/bungs to block it off at the motor)
Set of points (even if you can't fit them, the NRMA can)
roll of 100mph tape
tube of hand cleaner and some rag

Cheers,
Harv

Pretty good list harv. I cant begin to mention how many times coat hanger wire has got me out of trouble.
I drove 550 km last year with a burst radiater hose wrapped in duct tape.

To any list I would have to add a roll of twitching wire and a pair of sparky's pliers.
Not just for driving but for all aspects of life, you never know when something's gonna need wiring up/down/open/shut/together/apart.
It's uses are endless and many times you can forget about the real repair for years. :shh: :shh: :shh:

Add jerry can of fuel, 10 litres or so of water and either satelite or mobile phone and Gold cover for RACV (insert appropriate state equivalent) as a backup.

Shoes  .
I once ran out of petrol in my car without any shoes on, pushed the car to the crest of a hill to roll down to the nearest servo and burnt the crap out of my feet  .

Premium / Ultimate RAC coverage for your state! if they cant fix it for you at least they can take it to someone that can!

Should add a break adjuster..... Especially if your dust caps are missing.

I have all this tightly packed in two small containers in the boot of my EK for really long runs (Nats). If I carry this nothing breaks
If I am travelling in an FB I carry a spare one.
