Hydra-Matic Transmission

Post by EK Dreamer »

I have a 1961 Ek that is a hydramatic auto. I am wondering if anyone knows of a good mechanic that i can take her too as she revs very high in 1st gear on take off before she goes into second gear. She seems to be stuggling in gear and revs pretty high in 3rd. I drive her at 60 miles but seems to be over doing it. Would it be the adjustment on the gear that is out or would anyone know what the prob is?

any help would be great

Thornton's sort of between Maitland and Newcastle but probably more closer to Maitland.

I can't think what to write here so this will do.

hi bev
Your local auto trans bloke is
Bob hunt automatics elgin st Maitland... 49331141
One of the bset in the business is
Barry stace - 110 Fern st islington - 49622900

The old gearbox might benefit from a good service. Those old boxes are legendary for hanging in gear longer than what seems necessary.
Give it a service and see what happens. if its no better it might be time to upgrade to a trimatic auto. your old 138 has the same stud pattern as the later holden red motors so should not be a major conversion. shift pattern will be different.

hi reddo,,
thankyou so much for the advice.
I will give her a service and see what happens:)
Will keep you posted. I have a powerglide out of a 6cyl HR would it fit the 138 hydro gearshift and would it muck up the gear selector?

thanks again
Bev
