Hi guys I have an fb heater here that I'm trying to find out how to get the switch out of, any advice before I try?

Thanks Harv its a good read, I tried pulling gently on the fan switch but it wouldnt budge so I just left it for further instruction

The switch has two parts - the "knob" (the round bit with FAN and WARMARIDE cast into it) and the "winged escutcheon". They are both Bakelite, and brittle - if you bend them, they will readily crack.

The knob comes off by just pulling outwards. Don't put a screwdriver under it to lever it.

Once the knob is off, you should be able to see a slot-head screw on the winged escutcheon slot-head screw. The “nut” is a cable-keeper located inside the casing (catch it as it falls out of the casing). Pop the winged heater fan switch escutcheon outwards by around ¼”. Note that the escutcheon has small plastic tangs on either wing, and must be levered out very gently and evenly to avoid cracking the wings. To really get the wings off, you need to pull the heater fully apart, as they are permanently wired to the motor assembly, with the wiring runnning through the casing. Easier to leave the wings in place until last, as you will be turning the casing over a few times, and it's easy to accidently bust a set of loose wings.

Thanks Harv, the knob is on real tight as I gave it a decent gentle pull. Is it ok to use a wd or similiar under the knob? Its on that tight that the bakelite is slightly flexing so I backed of big time, I know this stuff is brittle

Go gently on your knob (good advice in most situations). WD40 shouldn't hurt it, though will make it shiny and slippery. A slippery knob is not always a good idea. You need to spray the WD40 under the knob with the "red squirty straw" that comes with WD40 cans.

The underside of the knob looks like this - chances are the steel spring clip has corroded onto the shaft:

Thanks very much Harv thats the picture I was hoping to see, I'll get the wd soaking tonight, I've had experience with a slippery knob before so I should be able to handle this one (dont know if that sounds entirely right )
