Usually I'd go straight to Rosco, but i figured it's best to have this up here for anyone looking in the future.
Were engine blocks painted in acrylic originally?
Have to paint a motor soon and was just wondering if acrylic would last (considering it could cop the occassional fluid spill, heat etc)
Whatever they used from the factory will do me, it seems to last 50 years without too much fuss when it's looked after

Re: Engine block paint
i would say enamel, acrylic usually takes all sorts of prep and maitanance, i've never seen a factoery painted engine with primer etc which acrylic would need plus etc primer etc

Re: Engine block paint
do you know what they were originally painted in? i just assumed enamel based on what you said about painting an engineSunnyTim wrote:I use industrial enamel over bare metal (no residue and prepwashed)
Have painted motors 20 years ago still looking OK. Enamel does dull over time but that's OK
Tim
i've used industrial enamel, plain enamel, engine enamel (some brands of which i hate as they are like trying to paint with water) also have used 2 pak (don't try to get it off at a later date though
