Help/advice wanted re V8 into an FB

I have just purchased myself a rust heap of a shell of an FB. Long term I want to build it up with a V8 engine, disk brakes all round etc.(if it goes I want it to stop). Many of the forums start with they have various cross members, or engines already. At present I have a blank canvas and as such want to know the best way forward.

Do I need to get an HR Cross Member or is something else better for putting in a V8?
I have read the VR running gear including engine/ gear box etc. all goes in fairly easy, is this correct?, is this the best way to go?

Again I am starting from nothing, and want to get an idea of what will work out best etc.
Meanwhile, I have a tonne of panel work to be done so no hurry, just don't want to go down one road to be told another is better.
