Wonky FB clutch

Post by Brian Westlake »

At the traffic lights today, my cutch pedal started making a funny click noise when I pushed it in. I thought this may have been the spring under the dash, but this was found to be OK. When I let it out slowly, it goes click and the last part comes out fast (like dropping the clutch)
Could I have a torn or broken clutch fork??

Could be lots of things from a loose slave cylinder to a dodgy actuator rod linkage under the dash I guess.

Engine off, handbrake on, work the clutch pedal whilst you get your head under the dash, under the bonnet, and then under the car to track the noise.

I will try this with Fi, saturday arvo after work (Try What???) I had the gearbox out of her EK 2 weeks ago. Here we go again! I wish I could say I was getting better at it. When I was young, I could pick up the gearbox on my chest, lying on my back on the grass. Now I seem to need a jack, still on the grass though! Drove my Tank Fairlane to work today. Seems to go well, and no gear changing, but fuel guage has dropped already!

I could feel the "click, click" through the clutch fork under the car (with Fi pushing the clutch in as I have'nt got particularly long arms or neck Fingers L.O.L.) I pulled off the floor cover and small inspection cover on the top of the gearbox and found I could touch the throwout bearing and clutch fork from inside the car. Click, Click, but still no clue. So I pulled out the box and still didn't find anything conclusive, no broken clutch fork, throwout bearing seemed ok. I will check the pressure plate, but I don't think it's that. I'm putting in a whole different gearbox, clutch fork and springs, so I may never Know what it was. If the noise is still there, I will have to seek some form of mental help.
