Hey - what's the best method to repair some not too large rust holes in the box frame section at the front of an FB?

Cut out the rust and weld new steel in, way better in the long run.

Hey - so not ever having done welding before, is this something most panelbeaters could do? Or is there anyone in the Sydney area someone could suggest? Am in the Ryde area.

Easy enough for a good panel better. But another option is if you have an angle grinder, do all the prep work and have the piece made ready to patch then either get the beater to do it OR get a qualified welder who can do onsite welding to do it. It may work out heaps cheaper... Especially if you find someone willing to do it on a weekend for beer rates!

Rare spares have crossmember and subframe type sections, apparently they go over and weld in quite easily.
I'd use a panel beater that has access to a hoist, make things easier.

Im with Devilrod , cut out the rust so its actually gone - never to return , make a new piece to fit and have someone weld it in , make sure the new piece is roughly the same thickness metal if you can .

I drove over to Dee Why to Holten Spares 99814776 it's 23 miles from Ryde and they did the welding for me but they are mates
Ask them about "The Dish" EK with all the red dust
and getting to Dee Why by public transport from Ryde will take about 2 and a half hours
Try Ryde Smash Repairs on Victoria Rd near Repco they fixed my wifes Rodeo after someone drove into the door they did an OK job
and I scored a screwdriver that someone had left in the car
