Hey guys - Still assessing and putting together lists of what i need for restoration etc and not yet sure if this is in the correct section (but as it seems to be in the driveline area it will do for now! ), but if i let the photos do the talking... What could cause this??

Knackered seal on the back of the gearbox - oil leaks down to uni joint which slings it off?

Harv is a good person to ask.

Thanks mate was hoping it was something relatively simple like that....

Is that uni fitted with a grease nipple (or been repacked at some stage)? A wee tad too much enthsiasm when greasing, and it will fling shit everywhere.

Never forget the old adage though: if there ain't no oil under it, there ain't no oil in it

Mine's got oil stains in the same spots, which I haven't touched.

It's a bit like free rust proofing

Just check your gearbox oil. It looks like old crud though, because there doesn't look like any has been flung onto your muffler / exhaust.
