The latest project!

Hey all,
Just got word that we're expecting a new 'project' to arrive later this year (the non-wheeled 18 year type...), and am wondering if anyone has fitted a baby seat to an otherwise standard FB / EK wagon?
Any (non parental) advice would be great
Cheers,
Matt

You will have to drill holes, but it can all be hidden if you are only doing the baby seat.
In my FC wagon I fitted a lap belt in the centre and the baby seat bolt on the diff hump. I have MDF floors in the back so I just cut a slit in the carpet and drilled a hole in the MDF to slot the restraining belt through.

yeh i have one fitted in my wagon it was there when i bought it, they have drilled a hole in the steel floor behind the back seat just before it meets the spare wheel well . you will find there is a thicker section around the edge for strenght and there will probably be a sheet of ply wood as this section is lower

G'day Matt
You need to take your vehicle to an authorised fitting station, for any fitment of child seats in NSW. unless the original manufacturer has location points for fitment, unfortunatly you cannot do this yourself legally.
Please consider the family, not the budget in this case.

Friends of mine had some plates made up that fit in under the hinge for the upper tailgate to mount the kid seat and still allow for use of the rear section.

Thanks heaps guys!
Looks like the professional way is the best option. Thank goodness I won't have to trawl ebay for any super rare Nasco baby gear....

Matt

Just a quick note to say that we took delivery of little Xavier last wednesday 23/5/07 - a champion effort by Mrs Brown Bear and a likeable little chap he is too!
Happy to say that he made his way home from the hospital in the FB and didn't say a peep all the way...
For those interested, pictured below is the baby seat brace installed to ensure our little companion is able to join us on this and other fun journeys...
Cheers,
Matt

Hey "The Three Brown Bears"
Congratulations to you both.
Ah, too have been driven home from hospital in a FB Special Station Sedan in the year 2007. Now something for you/him to talk about at his 21st.
Well done.
Regards, Smooth

Congrat's Mr & Mrs Brown Bear, didn't make a sound in the car, or couldn't hear him over the noise of the old wagon? The only way to travel

Congrats to the whole family!
The safety rail looks great , you should have it painted to match the colour of the car, it does sort of blend in with the back of the seat I suppose
I did notice something that most people overlook in wagons and that is stuff in the rear that can turn into lethal objects in a crash.
Not trying to scare you but anything in the back should be secured just incase.
Not sure if milford make a cargo barrier for the old FB/EK? Actually dont ever remember seeing one.
I had a crash in a 4WD and was struck in the head by a flying $2.00 coin
and the cut was pretty damn big so I can only imagine what a toolbox could do.
Anyway something for consideration
Regards Greg

Thanks guys! All told he's not so bad - if only he'd sleep at night...
Mrs BB suggested having the brace chromed, but I guess it matches the venetians somehow...
