the purple FB is going to get a face lift!

its been over 10 years now that the car has been cleaned up, and that has given me plenty of time to find all the faults and imperfections, bubbles are starting in the door skins, previous repairs are starting to show up theres a few chips and nicks etc and last time, it was done with youthful enthusiasm & insufficient funds so theres a few things that i would like done right this time around,....so its going to get sorted.

i'd love to have a colour change too so its likely to turn into more than just a closed door respray over existing. problem is i dont know who to turn to.

i've taken the FB to a couple of panel shops and have found it difficult to attract interest in the work unless i sign a blank cheque. its a daily driver and i'm not wanting a show car but want it 'nice' again. i'd like it to be done by someone who works with the older cars etc.

Can anyone recommend a panel / paint shop that take on this work, preferably NOR Perth? Will venture to the South side if need be.
i'd be looking for some panel and rust repairs + respray.....or budget permitting, colour change or rechrome.

I'm to far away to help you but its real hard for a beater/restorer to give a quote on one of these cars. The best senario is they strip it down and see what it needs. The problem is once that happens you are committed to the resto.
You need to put around ten grand away for what you want done. If you get some change that is a bonus.
You could do some of the work yourself but if you make a mess of it the beater will charge more to undo your mistakes.
It costs about a thousand dollars for the materials and while you are at it another thousand for a rubber kit. If you redo the chrome probably another couple of grand.

Good blokes arent cheap and cheap blokes arent good
I know a good bloke in Wanneroo way but he starts at $20k for a respray.

Hi Blacky, with you on that, its either a good paint job or a cheap paint job, can't be both.

20K is what i was expecting to hear..i understand where the time goes into these projects and don't expect for someone to work for $10/hr. but its hard to justify spending $20K on paint for a daily drive....gees, i'd want it to win a show trophy or two while its still fresh for that much.

i just got back from ultrachrome,
got the usual ,it'll come back worse than it is now c's its zinc diecast line. bloke wanted me to pay up front c's he couldn't guarantee workmanship and didn't want me to leg it if i found the results unacceptable ...needless to say i'm looking elsewhere.
