my FB van

Hi folks, thought I'd share a pic of my van. It is a '60 FB and have had her for a few years...I love her to death and is she is absolutely ROCK SOLID! Never seen or smelt rust. I have been driving her with original running gear (except for speco floor shift and suspension mods) but now am in the process of the full upgrade...hr front end, hq discs, drop spindles, balanced b/printed 202, auto, VN SS LSD diff (shortened), etc etc. Am really reluctant to paint her just because she is a faded/flat blue and as I said rock solid and straight, which is kinda' nice to show off... Anyways, great forum, I hope you like my wheels... Cheers, Matt.

Sounds like a great Van you have there Matt, but if its in such good nic why moddify it? Sounds too good for that!
Can't you look for another shell and start with that? (I know that sounds easier than it will be) I actually know someone with an fb van with a fuel injected VK motor already in it, just needs body work done

G'day Matt.

Very nice FB there.Looks like its been well looked after over the years.Don't feel pressured to paint her as the "rat" look is catching on and I reckon they look good with all the imperfections.

I've got a liking for FB's as my very first car was an FB Panelvan I bought in 1978 for $30.....yep......$30 !!

Was an ex shooting buggy but was all complete. Had lots of rust, heaps of dents, painted with house paint and a brush and blew more smoke than 10 Victa 2 strokes but was my pride and joy at the time.

Terry.

Hi trev, I agree to a certain extentwhich is why I have resisted this long, but for driveability, I feel the later running gear is what its all about. I also have a (modified) wagon which I really enjoy cruising (have been down the standard wagon route also).
I reckon the missus might have something to sat 'bout another car, but that hasnt stopped me before...

rat rod look for the blues brothers...

I am a massive fan of the 'rat rod' movement and my wagon is exactly that (red steelies, whitewalls, baby moons, etc). I am putting chev rallies on the van with whitewalls and baby moons also. The blues brothers are me and my groomsmen...I drove her to my wedding (claxton blairing)... a mate of mine drive my old restored standard wagon (previous wagon) and we used another mates (cheers dave) car from the FB club... what a great day!!

G'day Matt.

Great looking Panno, I'm admire the rat look, the engine upgrade would be good if you choose to do so, the only thing that lets her down in my opinion! is the square side mirror, a slight change to a rounder design with a slightly bent arm hanging from the top of the door frame would suit her much better.
Great Job in keeping her schmick.

Regards John

cheers

Sensational van there I must say. I think i may have said this before on here but I also had an EK van for my first set of wheels. Bought it for $60- and it did not have one speck of rust in it, it was back in 85. I then drove it into every tree in my ol mans paddock then gave it away....... any how yr FB van is too kool. Dont paint it I have just made that mistake with my FC now it does not look ratty at all any more.

I'll have to ask him and let you know! Body needs work but not sure how mutch. He did the running gear first then started on the body and found it was a bigger job than it looked  .
