202 Blue Vs Black

Post by Squirralien »

Hi I have found that the blue motor has advantages over the red 202 but now have to consider the Black 202, so does anyone know the pros and cons between blue and black in the 202 motors, I have been told many years ago that the black was a very week motor but I just don't understand how that could be true,
Any info would be appreciated,,
thanks
Thanks
Steven

As far as I know, the black (carby) head is by far the better of the two. Other than that and the injection I'm pretty sure they are almost the same. If you had a blue engine, you could replace the blue head for the black head, in saying so, I have also heard the black carby head is better than the EFI head.

Thanks Fud thats interesting, I will have to ask the engineers about that when i finally get there,, the best flowing head without extensive work is a great money saver,, hopefully the black head might also be set for unleaded ?
Thanks

Id careful using a black head with a carby set if its to be rego as a street car.
Due to the air pump that its ment to have hanging off it.
early vcs didn't have 1 and it disappeared when the efi showed up.
I dont like the idea of blowing extra air down the exhaust to meet emission requirements.

the black bottom ends are different to blues (heads interchange) the blacks have double counterweighted crank and i think have good rods like the star fire 4's
don't think you'll have to worry about the air pump (but different peopl have different views) my mate has an injected 5 litre out of a VS commodore in his EH everybody told him he'de need all the associated pollution crap, cats etc but he needed nothing even only runs a pod air filter
sometimes yor just better off shitting in yor hands and clapping

hi
black motor has a better timing cover , there is an oil catching lip all around the gear to stop the famous red motor timing gear stop .
and " starfire " rods ,and the cam is like a 35/75
the efi system is pretty ordinary , i swapped mine for a red motor and holley and there isnt a lot of difference !
i know the blue heads were a little " thin " and a lot were not able to be reconditioned

cheers !
