Mick, my father has been into Rileys since the 60s. He has one of the rare factory roadsters. I enquired about the cost of an engine rebuild the other day for him. Just the cost of parts is $6K.
But they were streets ahead of the Holdens in their day. Crossflow hemi head, twin 2 inch SUs, twin cams, 4 speed gearbox, real leather and walnut interior and 100mph from the factory... in 1948.

I'm guessing but this could be the on Gollings painted 15 odd years ago! Saw it in bits down there, even then it was impressive. The reason I think its the same Cameron's dad plays with those trains too...

They are making exact repo bugattis in brazil for two hundred thousand. They are so good that you can't pick them from the originals. A lot of the repo parts end up in original cars. I enquired about buying a straight eight engine from them for a boat project but at $75000 it was out of my league.
There are a couple of these cars here and the owners managed to fully register them even though they are brand new.

First got interested in Rileys in 1980. I was working for the Snowy Mts Authority in Talbingo (Maintenance Painter in Power Stations) and helped a guy restoring a Riley. I did sandblasting of some components and was lucky enough to see it go from rusty incomplete car to driving restored car, Dave is now retired and living in the ACT but I caught up with him not long ago when they had the opening of the second stage of the bridge at Gundagai. They filled the unopened part of the bridge with as many old cars in order of year as they could muster and yes he brought the Riley over still going strong

Yeah Mick, you're right, the HQ was an important car. The FBs/EKs certainly look very cool, are still reasonably priced and parts are relatively easy to get.
