Kustom Kroozers Reunion Sat Apr 16
Posted: Sat Apr 02, 2011 10:19 am
Hi folks, Lori Lee here, just posting the latest info on the Kustom Kroozers Reunion coming up on April 16 at Rocklea Showground.
This will be the first hot rod show to be held at the showground since the flood all but swallowed up the site, causing January's Twilight Hot Rod Show to be cancelled.
I've pasted in some info, feel free to ask any q's.
Cheers,
Lori Lee, Kroozer #77
Kustom Kroozers cruise back to the 1980s
Back in Brisbane in the mid-1980s, the airwaves were filled with Madonna and Wham, retailer stores stocked off-the-shoulder t-shirts and leg warmers and the highways were ruled by Holden Commodores.
But just below the surface, groups of teenagers looked back to the classic styles of the 1950s for inspiration for their lifestyle. Rockabillies as they were known, donned themselves in clothes from the 1950s. Back then, vehicles from the 1950s and 1960s were affordable, old Holdens and Falcons became the cars of choice and made a great alternative to being stuck in a little Laser.
A social car club developed called The Kustom Kroozers, with members coming from Brisbane and the Gold Coast. The Kustom Kroozers would organise car cruises and events including The James Dean Rebel Run and the Elvis Memorial Weekend. It was a pretty broad range of people involved in the Kustom Kroozers. There were never any committees or formalities. They simply weren't that type of club.
25 Year Reunion
For one day only the founding members of the Kustom Kroozers are holding a special hot rod show reunion at the Rocklea Showground. The event will feature:
Hot Rod Show
Live Concert
Markets
Kids Rides
Food and Refreshments
The hot rod show welcomes all pre-1973 vehicles. Drivers do not have to be a Kustom Kroozer member to enter the car show. Drivers simply bring along their daily driver, custom, hot rod or classic on the day.
Reforming for the event will be a collection of rock’n’roll bands from the 1980s such as The Convertibles, The Shakin' Quavers, The Slingshots, The Wildcards and The Reno Brothers. DJ Jimmy D will be master of ceremonies on the day and will be resurrecting rockabilly songs from the 1950s to the present day.
