I started off with this engine…

And yesterday I picked it up…

When Eric gave me the documentation on what he done to it, I asked “So it’s pretty much a de-tuned historic racing grey motor”?

“Tis” was his reply.

Never ask Eric for a mild engine rebuild.

Specifications
• Block cleaned, overbored, honed and surface ground
• Fully ported head from the 1955 Crowfoot Holden Special
• Hardened valve seats to suit premium unleaded petrol
• Isky Racing Cams valve springs
• Holden V6 3.8L intake and exhaust valves machined to fit
• K-Line valve guides
• Holden Ecotec V6 valve stem seals
• Resurfaced lifters
• German made Mahle pistons
• 9.8:1 compression
• Polished, crack tested and reground stock crank
• Polished, crack tested, closed and honed stock conrods
• Lightened flywheel
• ACL conrod and main bearings
• New cam bearings
• Wade 140 cam – 40/70 238 degrees at 50 thou, 429 thou valve lift
• External remote oil filter
• Triple 1 & 1/32 Stromberg downdraft carbs with #48 main jets and venturi restrictors
• Speco intake manifold
• Jack Myers headers
• Intake and exhaust manifolds ported matched to head
• Manifold bolts replaced by stainless steel studs and nuts
• Racing quality harmonic balancer secured by bolt into the end of the crank
• All new gaskets throughout
• Fully balanced
• Fully overhauled grey crash gearbox and new clutch kit
• New water, fuel and oil pumps
• Stock Bosch distributor fitted with Pertronix electronic ignition kit, new cap and leads

I’m stoked with the result. Can’t wait to fire it up.

Many thanks to my engine builder Eric Worner; David Reid for supplying the ex-Crowfoot Holden bare head, cam and harmonic balancer, plus all other little bits, pieces and advice that Eric needed; Bernie from Martin’s Engine Reconditioning for some machining work; Nigel from Xtreme Fuel Systems for the carbs, fittings, linkages and braided hose; Alan Fountain for the frogmouths and the forum's own Dave Mac for vapour blasting the rocker cover and intake manifold.

Andrew

Thanks guys, I'm really pumped by how it turned out :D :D :D
Nathan, I will take a vid when Eric comes over to run it in. That'll be in a few months after we paint the car, which we are hoping to have done before winter.

cool, i keep seeing period looking alloy rocker covered multi carbed greys and thinking that would be cool in the 2 door, but then i remember going down that track once before and it didn't suit me  plus the cost of this stuff these days

get some paint on the geney pulley it's letting the team down  :)
