Machining Mag wheels

Has anyone looked at machining the inside of a rim for suspension clearance? I have just got a pair of Hustlers 7" x 14" and would like to run them on my ute which is still running a kingpin front end. The rim will seat on the brake drum squarely but it is rubbing when turned, I was thinking I could machine off 3 or 4mm where it touches. The only other way is wheel spacers and I won't go there.
