CRAKK 2011 pics

Post by hewey »

Once again CRAKK was awesome. Numbers seemed a littlle down, but I think that was due to the 2 day run instead of the 4 days we've enjoyed previously :D

I travelled down with some mates. Here we are at Pheasants Nest waiting for another mate to meet up with us

When we got there we set up the 'Capital Country Surf Shack'

The Friday night a big storm passed by. We trundled down the road to get these pics, all the lighting in the sky is from the ligtning, 13 second exposure (no digital editing, thats how it came from the camera)

The 'criss-cross' cruise was a great idea - every second car had an alternative route - some did the criss cruise and some did the cross cruise :D We screwed up the first instruction (the signs didnt match the directions - yes we checked again when we went into town later   ) so from there we had to follow the car in front and hope we didnt lsoe them in traffic  The 2 routes were designed so they passed each other which was cool :D

At this stage one bloke made a wrong turn and about 5 of us followed  We passed GT going the other way and although I couldnt quite work what he called out out the general gist was 'where the hell are you guys going?'
Image
We eventually made it to DFO for the show and shine (not so much shine on my behalf, I rinsed the EK with bore water and realised I didnt have a chamois   )

Sorry guys, CRAKK is the Canberra Rod and Kustom Kruise, which is organised each year by the Canberra Hot Rod Association (CHRA) which is basically a committee/club serving Canberra rodders. This year was its 21st anniversary, so its been going a while  I've been the last 4 years in a row now, and as soon as the entry form arrives in the mail for next year I'll be filling it out!

Its held at the Capital Country Holiday Village, which is just off the highway as you come in to Canberra from the north (there's a servo on a hill and an exit ramp). Its held on the Australia Day long weekend, this year with Aust day being a Wednesday they had it the weekend before, but last year it was a 4 day long weekend from Friday to Tuesday which was awesome.

They usually have a cruise and show and shine on the Saturday. So last year we cruised in convoy to the old bus depot markets and had the cars on display there, its a show and shine for the public and theres something for the entrants to check out at the same time. Saturday night they get in a band to play. Last year we also went to Queanbeyan skidpan, which was great to watch and even better fun for the entrants. Hopefully thats back in the line up for next year with 4 days to play with :D Its a great family run too, they organise a kids disco, colouring in comps, treasure hunts, and this year they even had a magic show for the kids. There's also the pool and most kids take along their bikes to go cruising on, plus theres always a trailer or pickup cruising along with a bunch of kids in it :D

Technically speaking its open to ASRF class vehicles, but as you can see by the pics basically anything pre-mid 60s is welcome 8)
