Hey all, I'm putting feelers out for a period wooden sports steering wheel, like the one Thommo has in his FB (see below) or similar.
Cheers, Andrew.

Thanks for the pointer there VH. I guess that is the hard bit - getting a boss to suit the FB/EK steering column?

Thanks Stinky and Nathan. :) Looks like I'll have to do some research on this. In the meantime, if anyone has a wheel and boss kit ready to go, please let me know.

I have one of these for my ol' SAAS wheels
Its a deep boss that I machined off most of it to leave me with a shallow boss.
I first drilled the steering wheel retaining tapped holes, deeper, then
Parted off 1/2 to 2/3rds of the height.
It works a treat, horn works, indicators cancel

Cheers
Jeff

This is whats left of the original boss, shown in the accessoriesonline ad
Its only the base section.
Machined off, is a fake collapsable looking section.

compare this to the length of the advertised boss  http://www.accessoriesonline.com.au/sho

The long boss is for a flat wheel, I converted mine to suit a dished wheel.
My raised horn button is from another ol' SAAS wheel, with the new horn button fitted.
The Holden badge in the center is a modified cheapie E-Bay key fob glued in.

This could be used for any period/sports steering wheel.

Cheers
Jeff

Thommo, thankyou :D

There's a genuine Maxrob sports wood steering wheel on EvilBay at the moment. Are these of the correct period (I believe they were)? If so, I think I'll bid on it.

Cheers,

Andrew

That is the wheel I was trying to find when looking for one originally.
I ended up with what I am assuming is a cheaper aftermarket one from the same period.

Happy bidding :)

Not quite the same thing Andrew - http://www.summitracing.com/parts/GRT-1170/?rtype=10 - but pretty damn close! I just bought one for the wagon. Cheers, Steve
