Finally got around to having a look at the donk in the ute last night - did a compression test and got these results 150 , 150 , 150 , 150 , 145 , 150 .
Me mechanic mate had a good look at it and half of the valve stem seals are either buggered or half missing - on a head that was supposedly recoed
Looks like a trip to the bloke who did the head up with a lump of 4x2 is in order next week
The harmonic balancer is cactus too - where do I get one of them from ??? Are they available new/repro or do I grab one off one of my wrecks ?
I started with nothing and still have most of it left.

Apparently they fit. The one on my car is red...so that means it's certainly a red motor one But seriously i don't see why anyone would bother painting a grey motor one red so i reckon that's what it is
'The best engine in the world is a vagina. It can be started with only one finger. It is self-lubricating. It takes any size piston. And it changes it's own oil every four weeks. It is a pity that the management system is so f*$king temperamental.'
You just have to make sure you knock the Balancer on far enough .... as the the Spigot is usually much shorter on the red motor Balancers, and needs to go on to a position almost touching the timing case cover.

I bought a RECO head from a shop in Armadale - 2 weeks later it was pulled off to find 2 bent valves, and I didn't flog it
Dodgey stuff - I hope you get yours sorted!

Well - the valve stem seals were buggered but that wasnt all that was cactus unfortunately , so we yanked the motor and stripped it down.
The bores were as smooth as a babys bum and the tops of the pistons were all covered in oil -
and the head looked pretty bloody ordinary for a head that was recoed about 1000 kms ago ......
Will order a new set of rings tomorrow
