Pat Gardner Rack & Pinion conversion 4 HR Front Ends

Post by Thommo »

I am going to have to put a rack & pinion set-up in
the panel van to be able to lower the steering wheel position.

Are the Pat Gardner conversions the best?
Does anyone here use one?
Any pro's and con's?

Cheers
Jeff

I've got a rods racks unit out of Queensland... Very happy with the conversion job, Haven't driven it yet obviously but he's got a pretty good rep

Cheers Nathan, I'll look them up.

One thing I forgot to mention,
It must be a rear mounted rack,
I don't want it to be seen when fitted.

Yeah he can sort both sorts... You may need a star fire oil filter adapter as well

I think it's rodsracks.com.au

My old EK (Now owned by POPS) has rear mounted R+P installed. Was installed by Classic Olden in Perth and had a fantastic turning circle.

I had a Pat Gardner rack in the V6 EK - rear mount , good turning circle and drove like a bought one.
If I was going to convert another one Pat would be the first bloke I would call. It was about $750 5 years ago from memory.
I started with nothing and still have most of it left.

G'day Doller,
From memory my CRS kit came (crossmember, stubs etc, all changeover) came with rebent HR arms. They bolted up OK, but the turning circle is pretty huge (looks like an 80-point turn if you get lost in Maccas carpark  ). Having said that, my bog-stock FB is not much better.
Cheers,

Hmmm. Yeah ok thanks Harv.
The reason why I'm asking is because I have a front mount torana rack with HQ stubs on a HR front end and have been told the normal HR arms will work and other blokes are saying I will need the rebent CRS ones and I have seen some guys with the same set up even using the short HQ ones. I have normal HR and long HQ ones in the shed, if I cant find out I might just suck it and see!
Buggered if I know what to use. :? :? :? :?
