Willys , T models , etc are classed as hotrods , FJ's etc arent.
Theres a completely different set of rules for the two unfortunately - its a shame there isnt a rolling cutoff of say 50 years for the rod rules.

Just do what looks the coolest ,Grantly.
You might get nicked by the nazis,or you might get away with it.
Half the time they dont know the rules anyway, and you'll have to go to court to argue the toss even if you are right.
Just do as you please, dont do skids or drive around on slicks, and hope for the best.

Love your car,by the way.

Street Machine had an expression session on a Torana with a hotrod style grill and exposed engine, it was many years ago.

When I was young my mum got pulled over in the main street of Dubbo in a torana with no bonnet..
They said she cant drive it like that because if she hit someone they could end up in the engine bay

hi there
looking at the street rod regs (or the way i read them )
section 8 .2 under body hardware
a bonnet must be fitted when there is no protection from the fan or alternator
if a bonnet fitted at time of rego it must be fitted all the time
section 1 engines
toothed belt pulley drives must be shrouded if a bonnet is not fitted
alternator fans with sharp radial cooling fans must be shrouded if a bonnet is not fitted

interresting thing i was looking in the regs a max boost for a turbo or superchargered engines is 9 psi ??????????????????????????????
the use of a turbocharged or supercharged engine may require engineer approval ????????????????????

interesting ????????????????????????????????????????????????????

A turbo or supercharger increases power output just like installing a larger engine would. Although for road use i'm sure they would expect you to drive as slow as everyone else, when the motor is going hard in some cases it would put apply more forces to the body so could possibly need additional bracing.
Also an increase in power may mean the brakes or some other components could be insufficient at speeds higher than the original engine is capable of.
Eg if a car could do 100km/h stock, and a supercharger allowed it to reach 150km/h, the brakes may not be efficient enough at 150km/h (even though the driver maybe shouldn't be using the full power of the engine, i guess just ensuring safety of everyone on the road)

That's my bit anyway. And x2 on the shrouds etc for bonnet off, though aren't street rods pre 49? to lazy to check

Yep all pretty straight forward stuff. Shroud anything that spins and you can legally get it regoed without a bonnet. Follow the guidelines and you possibly pass first go. A good option if you don't want to pay for full rego. But remember if you make changes have it reinspected. The SR scheme has been a hard fought thing here in Vic and the planned 90 day permit should make it even better. Provided everybody plays by the rules. But be warned Vicroads are watching everything, full and limited rego wise as a number of cars have been pulled in over the pits and had rego suspended due to changes after acquiring plates...
