I'm interested in finding this out aswell. Do you know what the difference is between the Grey and the red?

I've seen a 202 put in using the standard manual box. the guy cut out the engine mounts from the donor car front end and welded them straight on the fb front end, don't know how legal it is but it worked well.

if it's the same as NSW yes all you have to do is weld on engine mounts (we can go to 159ci before engineers is required), there was a QLD guy on here a while back that said his roady guy was ok with him fitting a 202 with no engineering

Bit off topic as it involves changed front ends rather than engines.
I've wondered about the issue of older (un-engineered) mods for a while now.
I guess it is an easy thing for the RTA to police engine changes because of numbers but how is a blue slip guy to know whether the car was previously registered, pre bullshit days, with an HR disc front end as it isn't exactly a new idea putting them in and could have been in a car for decades without any hassles.

basically unless you have something to prove it had previously been registered in that condition you would have to re engineer it
this can also come down to how much of a knuckle head the blue slip guy is

when i bought the van originally it had previously been registered and engineered with a red motor, but because i had no engineers report but a set of old rego papers with eng No the first guy wouldn't do the blue slip cause he said the engine is ok but how does he know the gearbox and disc front was engineered

and that's basically correct
so unless yor on good terms with a blue slip guy be prepaired to shell out for an engineers report and even then IF he passes it it will more than likely be on the terms of "that wasn't there when i passed it right"

Yes Mick, your totally right. The loophole in NSW was, change to a 149 then do a engine No change and go through the whole cycle again up to 202, all done legally and no engineers report required. But if you jumped straight to a 202 engineers report is required.,

I hate to mention this but there could be issues insurance wise as well, I had my FJ insurance valuation increased recently by Shannons and the rep said that in the event of a accident claim the first thing the assessor will do is check the engineers report to make sure the vehicle matches it. In other words any mod done not declared will mean that the insurer will not be liable to fix your car.
So while getting it through rego is one battle when you do get it on the road don't forget to mention the change to your insurer

no matter how careful we are ourselves we have to share the road with others.
