Well Reidy and Anne arrived in Darwin on Tuesday last week, after checked over the two EK's and loaded the trailer we finally headed off on the Road trip of a lifetime. I have to say a huge thankyou to Reidy and Anne for offeringto fly up and drive one of the EK's, it was a fantastic trip and we had a ball, we did a generator in the white EK (stock running gear) in Tennant Creek and bought a brand new Lucas generator and regulator at the local Tennant Creek Auto pro store!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I have attached some pics of the road trip below........ we are now in Mildura and will see you all on Friday!!

How did the black beast go on fuel? What sort of "economy" do you get out of it?

Was an Awesome trip Andrew! had some well needed laughs on the way!

Fuel economy....... well when we filled up at the first stop the Grey used 47lts towing the trailer, I sat behind it all the way and used 73lt
I setup the laptop on the passenger seat (no, not to watch porn!) and started tuning the eight stack injection whilst cruising at 100 - 110 kph. On the next 300km + run we did the Black Beast used 6 lts less than the Grey!!!

The Black Beast used no oil or water on the whole trip, the grey used abit of oil because it had alot of territory to mark

Reidy reacons the Black one too slow compared to his Rat....

What a great time we had.
This trip happened pretty much on the spur of the moment for Ann and myself.
We are the ones that should be grateful to Gary for allowing us to drive the white beast through the centre. It's a trip I probably would have put on the back burner till it was too late.
Words cannot possibly describe the unforgettable experience we felt driving an Australian icon through outback Australia or the laughs we had on our journey.

Sounds like a trip i would like to do one day also, probably stopping a bit more to see the sites , Trev .

What a nice story to read. I love road trips. Both doing them and reading about them. I have been all over South Africa in our Holdens and even on bicycle (I've toured 6500 km's on the bicycle ). Also toured Australia twice (by car) and can recall a lot of those names from Alice down south. It is always fantastic to experience the kindness of people you meet along the way.
I did love the sunrise pictures of the EK too. They remind me of an evening in our equavilent of your outback. Got to the top of a mountain ridge and everything had a red tinge. As I went over this was the scene.
Good luck with where ever you are heading.
