Ok quick question about what colour to paint the:
Metal plates that cover the shock holes in the ute wood tray

Metal pates that screw into wood that cover the holes for access to rear shocks/

keeping in mind my skid strips r body colour.

Another questions, is regarding the skid strips, they line up with the tail gate risen metal bits??????? ya get me?

Ute flooring was laminated plywood and Masonite, painted Mundi brown (a chocolate brown) with 6 steel skid strips in line with the pressings in the tailgate, same width (1”) & 6 screws per strip & lined up with the same holes in the flooring.
The screws are countersunk head (self tap, type "B" No10 -16 x 1") and recessed into the strips.
The thickness of the plywood plus Masonite brought the floor up level with the metal floor.
The metal inspection plates were the same as the skid strips

Ive been told & seen, that the skidz on the FB were original body colour. From factory.

They change this after a short time due to the skids colour running & staining the Masonite...

Mine were originally body colour, u can see where the skids were laid out over the top of metal frame that support the Masonite & sprayed....U can see the distinct outline of the strips on the frame.

I might be wrong though, this is what my investigations have prooven thus far.

SO???? if thats the case, would the inspection plates be same as skids???

Seems the strips and shock plates were painted black the painted over and my guess is the inspection plates where already fastened to the board when it got its "Mundi Brown" then fitted into the back and the body coloured strips then secured.

Hmmmmmm mine (EK) were the body colur with no evidence of Mundi brown - seems to be a lot of different/funny things were done at GMH - for example different shades of grey the motor was painted - or changed from the FB to EK - so it's possible both are correct.

I heard that the strips were painted body colour. Some dealers painted the floor and the strips brown when they got a bit dirty prior to delivery.

I thought I had these inspection plates, but i don't, was going to make a set up? can any one tell me, were they just made out of normal sheet metal & what the detentions were? also thickness of metal?

Just grabbed one of my inspection plates and the trusty digital verniers. They are just FLAT (ie no indents unless you drop an engine block on them, lol) and almost definitely would have been ordinary, garden variety rolled sheet steel.

I'll leave you to choose how you want to interpret the dimensions.

Blank plate dimensions = 4.412'' x 4.412" x .062" (16 gauge or 1.5 mm) corner radius of .404". Essentially mark radii from hole centres below.

Four holes pitched at 3.604" of .199" dia. Holes countersunk 90 deg to the bottom of hole. Originally these holes were punched and countersunk in a press when they were most probably made in a multi stage stamping die (ie the holes were never drilled but if you drill it and chuck some screws in who will know, lol)

Now off ya go - I'll give you + or - .001" tolerance

Mate, sorry but missed your last post in this thread and good on you for sketching up a decent representation of the little plates.

The corners have a RADIUS of .404" therefore the circle diameter would be .808" other than that all looks good. They are a pretty basic piece of engineering and I doubt slight variations would be picked up.
