Ruby's been hit - again!!!!

Post by paulb »

for the second time in just over 3 months Ruby's been hit while parked - I wasn't even in the same suburb this time!!!

details were left and the person who hit is very sorry and is completely willing to sort it all out it's just yet another pain in the rrrrrrs

so... reckon I need to get a new door or will this be just a repair job?

At least you could pull the door trim off and pop it out so it isnt so noticeable ? One of our utes at work had a ding like that after a suicidal roo hopped into it - when we popped it out you could barely notice it.
I started with nothing and still have most of it left.

Unlucky and Lucky.

Unlucky to have it hit yet again but lucky the bloke was honest enough to leave you a note with his details instead of the usual hit and run.

No panel beater here but I'd have a go at pushing the dent out and see how it looks.Maybe after that some hammer and dolly work or similar it might come out ok.

If it don't work then another door might be the go.

Where did you get those rare Nasco plastic chrome strip retaining clips??

Terry.
I can't think what to write here so this will do.

I recon if the door has no rust you should fix it, don't try to do it yourself though get someone how knows what they are doing, the other bloke is paying! I wouldn't be just popping out the dint.

Don't touch it!

If the other guy's paying, and if(?$) his insurance is paying for it, they'll want a look at it.

Again, if there's no rust it should be quite an easy fix.... I say this after just stripping one of my doors to find a plate pop rivetted from behind to cover a hole 5"x4" and then fibreglassed over! :x .... we may be repairing it

trim clips

Post by rosco »

just side-tracking for a bit, I am replacing the outer door trim retainers around the whole car gradually using modified nylon clips from Bill Thompson rubbers in Ringwood. I tried to refurb the originals but because they are manufactured from spring steel, I felt they would eventually break down again. The nylon clips need to be reduced by shaving both sides in order to make sure the trim is centred - my first attempt is yet to be rectified. I fitted them to the door panel using stainless self tappers sealing both sides with butyl-mastic.
At each end of the trim, I manufactured stainless retainers from stainless strip and silver-soldered stainless button head bolts to them for mounting through the door holes. The front retainer in the rear door is a pain to do - when I come to the other side instead of soldering the bolt to the strip, I intent to solder the nut on the inside of the retainer so as to simply drive the button head bolt into it instead of trying to thread a flat and spring washer then nut onto the bolt through an extremely narrow aperture.
Hope this makes sense - if you want a pic - PM me.
