Hello,
I finally bought my dream car...an 1960 FB is fantastic orginal condition. Do you have any advice on insurance (I will be turning 25 in Sept)?
Thanks,
Kate

I'm with Shannons, very helpful and do a good deal on insurance. I spoke to a rep at a local car meet and asked what my FB was insured for. Its insured for $6000 as I havent been down there yet to do an agreed value. He was estimating it should be insured for between $15000 to $17000. I think I will take it down there this week I think.

Get 3 quotes before you decide.

In the past I've used RACQ, AAMI and SGIO plus others.
It seems that one car gets a better rate for a certain driver than others.
Always pays to shop around. :D :D

Congratulations Kate on purchasing the better of the FB/EK models. You clearly have impeccable taste in choosing an FB.
Unfortunately you only find out how good an insurance company is when you have to make a claim.
I have only had to make one claim which got very involved because of the clown that hit me.
I am insured with Shannon's and very happy to say that my claim was finalised without any fuss whatsoever.
I have nothing but praise for the way they handled things and my policy didn't suffer any increase.
It's entirely up to you if you join a club or not but for what it's worth, Shannon's look upon you favourably if you are a club member.

Shannons for me definately. They were easy to deal with over the phone.Haven't had to claim and don't want to, but Bill's claim story with them is re-assuring :D .

Your age may have some bearing on the quote/s costing.I'd shop around all the other companies ( it only takes a short time on the phone/online getting a quote ) and then ring Shannons last before making your decision. It does pay to shop around.

yes there may be cheaper insurance companys than shannons (though you very rarely here of them) and luckilly i've never had to claim, but i know others that have and like reidy they have nothing but great things to say about there experiance, which is very different to what you usually here about other companys

Thanks for the advice everyone :) it's always good to hear from people who have experienced the insurance companies first hand. I am going to start shopping around and see what Shannons say about my age seeing as I have a clean driving record. I would be interested in joining the club but am not sure how or what's involved?
Thanks again,
Kate

Hi Kate I have been with Shannons for probably 20 years now. Have 4 cars with them including 2 late models. They are very competitive rate wise. Have always had my hotrods with them and had one claim my own fault that they paid without hesitation and no increase on premium. Other good thing is that you can set the payments up direct debit monthly. doesnt seem to hurt that way. lol Best of luck Steve.

I just did the insurance on the EK sedan.

Insured with Suncorp this time.
Tried a few and they were around the $600 to $1200 mark.
As my 19 year old son is going to be a regular driver, I needed to make sure he was covered also. :? :?
Every time he was added in it added a 3 or 4 hundred dollars to the premium.
They also wanted to limit the value to $2,000 to $2,800.

The car is also modified, and with Red motor, 5 speed and mags, a few didn't even want to try. :( :(
Even for just 3rd party. No interest.

Anyhow, Suncorp covered the car as a joint policy with my son for $254. which I thought was a absolute bargain. :D :D :D

Didn't get around to trying Shannons, but will see what they can do.
