Still a couple of little bits in the driver side rear corner Greg. Guards and tailgate still to rust repair. I have a respectable looking spare wheel door. Has been bogged but will probably do for now. I may just give tailgate from the van a quick paint and fit that for now as well. Like you I’m looking forward to some painting weather so I can try my hand.
Cheers
Clay

Lots of work going on down your way Clay,

Enjoy seeing your progress with the metal repairs, thanks for the pics. I was interested to see you are going with a rear sway bar. Many years ago I purchased a Selby rear sway bar and fitted it to my sedan (it is still on the car now). The bar bolts to the diff and then returns to the leaf springs. It seemed to do very little :esad:

I managed to do some spray painting last weekend to a few bits and pieces.

Stephen

Yes Stephen I’m not a fan of the Selby type. Will see how the one I’ve ordered fits. Spray painting, something I’ve got to get my head around.

Happy birthday to meImageImageImageThe ute is only 59 this year, but I’m 1959 model.

Expensive mask, cheap gun. Two pack etch seems to be the go. I think PPG is a reasonable product?
There are some small pockets around where I’ve spot filled pinholes in the outer sill. I’ve never even used bog on a car though I vaguely remember using polyester resin with woven glass fibre and Polyfilla on the lower front guard on my first car the HK wagon.

Hi Clay,

Be very careful with that paint, although you have a good mask it still wont stop the isocyanates completely. Paint with plenty of ventilation and keep the overspray moving away from you at all times ( don't paint into the breeze ).Wear full disposable overalls as well cause this stuff can get into your skin.
The killer stuff is in the hardener and yes PPG is good quality.

We want to see you around for a lot longer yet !!

Have fun

Greg

Happy Birthday Clay,
Some nice goodies there. What nozzle size is the gun? Bet you can't wait to use it on the ute!

Regards
Stephen

Yes today John, 60 not out. Wow happy birthday to your twins. My eldest is 21 at the end of the month.

Thanks Greg. The seller was adamant about covering up but not that adamant. I’m going back tomorrow to get a reg, gunwash and sanding discs. I will see about disposable overalls.

Cheers Stephen. Size 2.0 or is it 20? Could have gone a 1.8 or 2.0 but decided the larger on advice. I’ll prolly have ago tomorrow with it.

Hey happy birthday Clay obviously 1959 was a good year hey

it is funny but since I have turned 60 I've had all these different thoughts about retirement and the likes and how close that shit is before it really didn't cross my mind hope you had a great day and yeh watch out for that paint mate the guy that painted my ute (75) was telling me all about it and he made sure to cover up and had his mask on all the time.

Keep the photos coming you old fart :ewink: :ewink:

Retirement tell me about it Neil. My dad never got there and I’ve outlived him.

Steve and family at Lonsdale paints are very helpful to a novice like me. I thoroughly endorse them to anyone in SA that hadn’t dealt with them They want me alive do I can buy more stuff too!

Greg the Epotec is isocyanates free. Plenty of other nasties though.

Things are getting serious. 10 metre run to thisImageThen 8m to this Image

More gasImage
The d plan I’m on is rent and one fill $108 with 1 free refill in first year. Thereafter second fill is $108. If you use two bottles s uesr it’s about the same cost as the e plan. Due for a free one in February when the rent is due. This will last me a while as the rust repairs are thankfully winding down.
