Clay,

Looks like you're going to need the gusset panels which close off the sills at the rear. I've got a paper pattern here, and I could . . . fax . . . it to you. Just realised there's another technology gone obsolete. I could . . . scan, pdf and e-mail it to you.

Thanks for the offer Rob but I fitted the gusset already. I just need to finish welding it in on the wheel arch side.

Got carried away last night while the wife was out and now sill is finished bar grinding back, painting and filling with fish oil.
Bugger me if I’m not virtually out of gas. Seems like I just put a fresh bottle on but I’ve been going at it like a mad thing I suppose.

Wheel arch déjà vuthe floor channel had sagged so I levered it up with crowbar and straightened with g clamps.

Huge effort on the fuel tank tub! And the millions of other fiddly repairs. Your perseverance is to be commended!

Bit of an update. I’ve been getting good practice working on the sill. That’s what I’m calling it as it hasn’t been very productive. It’ll do with a skim of bog.
Decided to stitch weld the tank surround to chassis rails as well as rosette. Once again not the tidiest but will grind back. It’s firmly attached. Just need to finish rosettes on the back Tek screw holes.

Did a job on my cheap eBay helmet. it’s helping

I now make a habit of turning the gas off at the bottle during welding breaks. Many of us have been caught out before with leaking fittings emptying the bottle

I believe the bottles are prone to leak at the top unless turned full on or off John. I always turn mine off and release residual pressure at the gun by turning feed and current to zero and running until you can’t hear the gas coming out.

Based on Greg (EK 283)’s Chev EK build thread, I have ordered a rear sway bar for XP Falcon. Was less than half the price of Eatlybitz EJ EH bar and looks identical. I hope it fits.

Will do blacky. Shockers, handbrake cables, rear brake hydraulic hose and exhaust all conspire to make using a body connected bar tricky, but not keen on the leaf spring connected type. I’m reminded to check fuel line interference too although as I am making a new one I guess I can make any minor deviations, so perhaps fit bar first. Also concerned about the effect of varying the ride height as I intend to do at some point.

Having a go at one of the spare opening bottom corners.
It’s a patch up job. Done properly would require replicating the whole piece. Using 0.9mm as original. Easier to work without oxy for two reasons. First I can form it over the remains of the existing piece with ball peen hammer. Also easier to get the right penetration butt welding pieces of the same gauge.
