Good one mate

Broken record here, but I do timing by ear. Advance till it pinks under load.

Yeah, bit hard to test under load as yet as I can't get up enough of a run to get out of first gear

. Once she's on the road I'll be doing under load tests. Where does current unleaded fit into 1960s petrol octanes?

Greys ran on standard so 91 should be ok, but hell, damn the expense and run the 95, or even 98 if thatโs what is available. Any car on the road will benefit from higher than 91 octane. Itโs marginal at best and most cars these days are rated to run on at least 92 which we donโt have. My 2c.

Loosen distributor lock screw. Start engine. Run it up to about 2000 rpm unloaded. Advance the timing bit by bit until the motor starts to hunt, fluff and stumble, then retard until the hunting stops.
This method works well for twelve-volt Holdens. For six-volt Holdens, advance the timing until the motor kicks back when cranking hot, and then back it off a bit.

Projects 1, 2 & 3 all together today. Not sure if it's a dream or a nightmare.

The photos make it look much bigger than it is. It's pretty tight but will be a lot better when fronts are off the 2 utes. You are making great progress Dave.

Hi Brett,

No Patrick, those 2 utes are going to be 2 utes. One to keep with a 186 and 4 speed and the blue one with a slightly warm but original reco grey and original box. The blue one is the one that could be a combination of an FC rear end and an EK front if that's what it takes. 1.5 utes left outside for bits.

Blue slip for Wilma today. Will do battle with RMS on Monday to get it registered. Still a bit of work to finish her off but roadworthy officially
