After finally working out that the tank that came in the ute is not right I’ve been using the tank from my van to mock up the tank surround to the extent im confident of the geometry, I’ve started by extending my donor cut on the side to form the replacement chassis rail box section. ImageTaken measurements and I’m confident in bending the extension up so I can reinstall prior to a final cut and shut on the vertical section of the rail near the top edge.

Filled up holes in the rear cross member. Cut out chassis rail side. Gave things a liberal cost of ranex. ImageImage
Ready to apply weld through primer after a quick wipe with thinners and weld in the donor panel. Image

I managed to set fire to the nylon zip on my cotton overalls Image
Tank surround finally tacked in place and I’m happy with the result so far.

Cheers Patrick. Certainly is fiddly in places.

Great time to run out of mig wire. This means I’ve added 5kg to the weight of the car!!

Turned to playing with the hp motor. ImageBores cleaned up with steel wool and wd40. ImageThrust wear area discoloured where the rust was but feels smooth as. Turns freely.

I’m doing what is comfortable to work on at this angle before I flip her over. A lot of stuff will be easier on the other side as I will be able to hold heat sink underneath with my left hand while I weld inside the tray with my right. I’m keen to turn her over now but keep finding more I can do prior. It’ll look prettier when I get some metalfix on it.
