Got some time in the workshop finally and sorted out the top radiator hose I had to make one out of 2 standard commodore hoses because the engine is basically a series one it has the thermostat at the back and the stupid pipe that runs around the drivers side but it seems to have worked and all good also had an oil leak from the back dripping from the stone guard and was sweating that it wasn't the rear main seal, dropped the stone guard (exhaust first) and thankfully not rear main but leaking from a couple of loose bolts on the rear of the sump, sorted that out and took him for another drive and seems to be all good.
Booked in to have the final dyno done on the 24th and then should be able to start engineers inspection and rego process fingers crossed

Have been delayed a 2nd time trying to get final dyno completed   decided to get the engineering things underway so took Frank to get the wheel alignment done, came out all good and took him to the weigh bridge to get weighed, ended up at 1280Kgs which is not bad I thought.

Neil

My wagon needs to go on a diet... 1580kg.

Wow Harv that block of cast iron you have up front must be awfully bloody heavy :esurprised: what else do you have that adds so much weight??
I know I'm missing a couple of cylinders to you but I didn't think there would such a big difference.

Next project for me is an FB Wagon and I have a 307 for it so I may end up the same

Hey Clay even with the basic tune it feels pretty slippery so I am wondering what the final dyno is going to wake up in it.

Second row of seats - lots of glass - huge roof - three extra doors - would add up quick

I need a diet too  but wasn't on the weighbridge when they measured it.

So where did the extra 390kg come from?

There's 90kg difference in engine weight (SBC vs. grey).
There's 27kg in gearbox (TH350 vs crashie).
There's 40kg in extra fuel (full, 60L tank compared to 10L in the tare weight).
There's 13kg in sound deadener (dynamat vs. factory)
There's 8kg in differential (BW78 vs. banjo)
Then there is a 3/4 chassis kit, washer bottle, radio, driving lights, 15"vs.13" wheels and tyres, brake vacuum pump, larger radiator, second run of headers and exhaust (twin vs. single), seatbelts, shifter assembly, heavier fuel pump (holley vs. grey mechanical), carpet and underlay vs. rubber amt, jumper leads and basic tools etc.

The consolation is that extra weight comes with extra mumbo. In theory, it should turn the factory 20.0 quarter mile into a 12.6. Now if someone was wise enough to subtly set up a vehicle for giggle gas (larger fuel lines, forged slugs, flashing blue warning light in the dash cluster)....

Cheers,
Harv

Yes,

Weight is usually heaps different in a ute compared to a wagon, lots of glass in the wagon !

That V6 also has the luxury of alloy heads and i'm not sure but is the block alloy as well ?

Neil your ute is going to be a fast little machine and will probably scare most other road users. Your going to have a ball with it !!

If is not as quick as you would like then put a supercharger on it, then it wont be a HOLDEN it will be a HOLDON !!!!!

I did have a good think after I had posted re Harvs wagon and when you think about it every little bit extra certainly does add up.
From my manual the Ute originally weighed 2452 Lbs (1112 Kgs) so I have only added 168 Kgs for a fair bit more mumbo

Greg my V6 is a series 1 block so cast iron and the heads are heavily worked VR so again cast iron and don't worry I think it is going to be fast enough for me   if it was too crazy I don't think I would get "she who must be obeyed" in it

Way to go Neil. What I like about the old cars is they don’t have all that extra stuff.

You have fast glass too I recall. The electric motors weigh a bit.
I wonder if some of the difference could be in chassis strengthening.

Seeing I'm delayed in getting the final dyno tune done I decided to get my engineer to do the final inspection, this way everything will be ready to go for the engineer to submit his report as soon as he witnesses the dyno.
The engineer is coming this morning so happy days hopefully
