Have tried a couple of pre-mixed spray cans in Montana grey from different suppliers but all seam to have a darker shade and are poor matches so the code has been misinterpreted over time I think.

Ended up taking my ash tray (100% original and non-faded) to Eastern Auto paints in Bayswater and they colour matched it - came up beautifully so if anyone wants the correct colour they can just ask for Montana Grey (special) and they will get the correct colour.

Shit day yesterday - car was just about to go to exhaust guys to be finished off this week so I could drive it home - Mechanic failed to test brakes properly and when he expected them to work - they didn't sending the ute into a brick wall - putting big dent in the rhs guard and then hrs door - the guard may not be repairable - certainly the trim is nackered and the door has a fair bit of work required.

Of course his insurance will cover it but it will no longer be original paint and panel which is pretty devastating.

I'm looking to get a full outside re-spray now as to just doe the two panels will look stupid and will never blend in with all the lifetime of marks and patina that was built up over decades - I'll lose that beautiful arm wear mark on the window where Mr Drysdale from Wee Waa had spent countless days trundling around his property.

Sighh - I didn't think it would mean so much to me but I was wrong.

Little update - after being screwed around by motor trades insurance for 4 months Ive pulled the pin on them and putting it through my own insurance to get it moving again.

After careful consideration and thinking about the $ so far invested I have decided to get the whole care rust free and re-sprayed at the same time as I was no longer happy with the tatty look it had plus it was not that much more to get it all done after considering rust repairs and tail gate re-spray etc etc.

So watch this space and will update - at least all the mechanicals are done now so re-assembly should be relatively pain free.
re-wiring at same time plus re-vamp of interior but keeping same look.

Bare metal re-spray in same Montana Grey - undecided if I will get the primary producer sign writing re-done on side.

I love my EK for all it's dents and scratches......it's homely and honest but...............I love my FB, it's like a dealership test drive everytime I go out in it..............really they're both great. I always turn my head when when parked up and walking away from either of them. Onwards and upwards Wally. Atleast it'll be back on the road and you're still in possession of it.

Yeah thanks Craig - not the way I had planned but thats life - At least this way it will be in great condition for the next 50 for my boys if they take an interest - either way I will enjoy driving it for years to come.

I'm back - how time flies - anyhoo the ute has gone in to Back To Life Restorations in Bayswater and he's done a great job of taking the kinks out and stripping the bulk of panels so Soda blast doesn't dame the skins - Its come up brilliantly with no surprises which is great - some rust in both floors as we knew and the supports underneath but I got some replacements from Taylors automotive - not overly impressed with the old flog as he sent me one floor panel that was far from perfect and then wasn't interested in replacing it so have to get panel guy to fix it but they are better tin than rares - so be it!
lots of pics to show progress - she's now in epoxy and clean as a whistle and heading back to Back To Life for the rust repairs and paint.
