How frustrating. As you are modifying the ute may be worth outlaying $120 on a good flaring tool and do your own, or at least use it to fix the bought ones. You really need a bender as well if you want to make your own.

Yeah got that stuff Clay- have made other pipes on Wilma but didn't have the fuel pipe stock and thought it was a good idea at the time😒. Not sure how it would go putting the flaring tool on it but if I can't get it better I'll give it a run.

Didn't want the risk of an ongoing problem Rob. It was the only pipe that I haven't replaced with new on the whole car, so a nice shiny clean pipe seemed like a good idea at the time...and still does.

I bought an Eastwood flaring tool years ago - has probably paid for itself at least twice by now I reckon.

I bought MasterCool. It's paid for itself too.

On another unrelated matter, I have an exhaust leak on the hot box flap shaft. It's not huge, but may cause blue slip dramas- I'm not sure. I think the main leak is on the spring side so maybe able to slip something around the shaft- dont know🤯
Has anyone fixed this without bushing the manifold (which I'm keen not to do)?

Silicone- OK that's a good idea. Thanks Tim.

You are playing tricks on me😀. It was 2018? An admin type person must have been in there and changed it Tim😁. Unless I have dropped a cog.....which is entirely possible...

Been driving Wilma round my small paddock. Got into second gear once! Balancer off today to check it out as seal is leaking too much for comfort. Also heater valve is weeping on pipe fitting so will fix that while radiator is out. Good news is speedo works and everything else seems to be too.

Another Ebay lesson this week. 'Reconditioned ' carbie had a broken choke spindle on the riveted fitting that holds the spring loaded choke lever. Couldn't work out why choke wasn't closing. Did the risky thing and swapped spindles on the car without dropping the little brass screws. Living dangerously in lockdown🤣.
2 weeks to get it right for rego🤗

Emojis seems to be running amuck today.

PS: worked out horn problem last week. Horn worked on bench with battery, but on car it blew the fuse. Ohm meter revealed that both terminals were shorting to earth. So when on car +ve shorted straight to earth with power on. Turned out that someone had put it together but left out an insulator for the adjuster screw assembly. Made something up and now good as gold. Love the deep sound of these old horns. PPS: my home made horn contact works like a bought one so a good easy fix ( see posts way back).

Geez I can imagine the frustration at those leaking fuel pipes.

I need new fuel and brake lines from front to back... maybe I should invest in some good tube bending and flaring tools.

Sounds like Blacky likes the Eastwood gear, I might have to check it all out

Hey Drew
I have bending tools your welcome to borrow. My flaring tool is only a single flare and I think you need a double flaring tool.

Yeah fuel pipe was a nightmare. Of course I was testing by starting the engine and fuel was going everywhere - thought it was going to burn for sure. Put a comment on Evil Bay site reflecting my experience and fellow rang this morning having a go at me. Then posted a comment on my feedback saying I was a 'winger'. Probably true, but product didn't work and that's what I said. It was probably bad luck, but all 4 fittings on 2 pipes leaked like a sieve. The flanges were not centred to the pipe.

Pulled front pulley this morning. Groove on flange evident and maybe also the seal a bit askew on seat. Waiting on new seal to turn up in post now cause of lockdown. Something I could have otherwise driven 30 minutes for😪

I’m thinking it will leak if it is grooved Brett.

I have a new style balancer ready to go on - no grooves on that one, but groovy.

Geez thanks mate! If appreciate that but I can’t help but think the tube bending tool would be a pretty basic little bit of kit?

Can you post a pic of it somewhere?

I might be able to whip something up on the machines rather than get you to send it to me.

I’ll PM you.

He’s only two burbs away Drew but yes it’s a relatively available tool.

The black benderer does most of the work. Different grooves for different tube sizes. Teaches you quickly, yet repeatedly, that there is a difference between bending to the left and bending to the right (kinda like a flare tool keeps teaching you to put the flare nut on before flaring).

The blue handled one is handy in tight spaces or short tubes. Will kink long radius bends though.

The big black thing is a tube straightenerer. Pricey, but handy. Takes coiled tube and makes long, straight lengths in seconds. There are other ways to straighten (by hand, straighten through a hole in a wooden block, stretch tube) but I've found this thing to be worth the price for the amount of line I bend.
