Not bothering with the axle and springs as they will be coming out later on when the springs and centre at the least.

Another coat and I will do some more when I flip it over on the other side. There are more areas I could work on with it up like if is but impatience may get the better of me.

I re-tapped tank mounting threads to 1/4 x 20 (UNC I think). that’s what I assumed them to be but must have been wrong as thread stripped.

Next job to repair fuel tank surround. Fitted it up to tank to brace it up.

These are a sheetmetal, self-tapping type screw Clay, so the thread's different to a bolt type thread. If the screws don't hold properly now, some options are:
- bolt/nut/washer/springwasher,
- larger sized self tapper,
- weld up the thread holes, drill and self tap with the original sized screws - I'd do a test piece first for this method though, as mig welding might be a bit too tough for a self-tapper if the new material is too thick.

Thanks for demistifying John. I’m sure the original screws will turn up one day. Re tapping to 1/4” uni seems to have worked. In some cases I needed to hammer down the thread plates to make them tight prior to re-tapping. The car is really a hot rod now!

this bit will be pretty well hidden so ready to ranex, wire brush and then zinc prime as it will be folded over rear body member where the spare wheel door attaches.
