You have 86 days until your build thread hits the 15 year mark - I bet you can finish it before then 8) 8)

Looking great mate, you must be getting excited

Holy shit 15 years !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Lots of water has passed under the bridge since I started ! I will be honest its not the only thing I have tackled in this time.

I have moved once and built a house, plus 2 sheds ( one at the old house and one here at the new ). I have raced another car for the past 15 years the big bad Stude and have also had to endure a sick child, thankfully she is now fully recovered.

Thanks to all those that have watched and given me the inspiration to continue, its been a pleasure on this site.

I am in between jobs at the moment so it has given me heaps of time to crack on and I won't be looking for a full time position until this car is finished.

Yes I am getting very excited and this just pushes me along, I just can't stop thinking about it !!!!!

Greg would it have been possible to channel the sub frame any further into the Torana crossmember?

Hi ozek,

The springs I have in the car at the moment were unknown apart from heavy duty standard height. I have HQ stubs that lower the car 1 inch already but I have 4 inches of bump and only 1 inch of rebound (rubbers to subframe).
So I will let it go and have a drive first see if it sags at all.
Channelling the sub frame any more would give issues with the steering uni coming up higher and fouling on the chassis rail. As it turns out I had to trim the rack shaft back about a inch to get it to fit.

Sandblasted and ready for the last of the painting, clinker grey style.

I'm going to experiment with some flattener in the 2 pack for these bits, as they were satin / matt finish originally.

Tomorrow !!!

Greg are the upper control arms on your front end mounted in the standard UC position?..If so, could any caliper to UCA clearance be gained by relocating the UCA to the A9X mount position ?

Hi OZ EK,

The upper wishbones on the Torana front end A9X style are drilled 1 inch lower than the stock ones. This is to make the wishbone lower on the inside so when you corner the camber increases by pulling the top of the steering knuckle in as the suspension is put under load, via the arc of the wishbone.
There will probably be less room for callipers in this situation.
I have used Camaro ball joints that are longer in the spindle and raise the arm up away from the steering knuckle which gives clearance for the callipers. The off shoot to this though is that wheels need to be at least 14 inch to clear the lip of the wishbone, a never ending story !!!!
Page 31 of my posts.

PS before I installed the Camaro ball joints I was going to relieve the wishbone to clear the calipers (Steel HQ).

Mucking around with brakes today, I decided to change my stud pattern to suite Chev and to coincide with my new wheels. My axles were already drilled for both patterns Fraud and Chev and I also drilled my brake drums for both patterns. Apparently this is now not compliant with NCOP ??
I decided to change the drums and have found that HQ is the same pattern as CHEV and will fit the Fraud brakes. The only issue is the larger centre the HQ drum has over the axle. I had some rings made up from an ebay site that were press fit but I used a trick I learnt when in high school !!! Simply heat the rings and they will slip on cool down and shrink tight. Success !!!!!

Caltracs, nice.

4.75” HQ - HZ, WB? and Chev. You make it sound so easy Greg. Having the multi fit axles helps I suppose. Is it the drums that don’t comply, and could you weld up the holes?

NCOP Section LG Brakes, 2.5 Modification of Components:
The re-drilling of drums or rotors to suit different stud patterns must not be undertaken
unless in accordance with the manufacturers’ specifications.

Hmm.... this might be an interesting conversation with the engineer for my meth monster disc brake conversion. It uses redrilled Mitsi rotors. Quite a few of the kits sold via Hoppers Stoppers though, which perhaps will sway the argument. Hoppers manufacture the hubs, perhaps the same can be said for the (new) repurposed (redrilled) rotors.
